Fine Art
A unique combination of colour flats and a matte texture of paint is what characterizes Maria’s large compositions. Her canvases are often filled with people and objects, and sometimes landscapes. Her balanced compositions and a sophisticated game of colour and line create a certain stillness, a psychological suspension of the moment. Nourished by the great masters of Medieval times, like Giotto, Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Enguerrand Quarton Maria de Bueil’s paintings are explorations in the desire to find her own geometry of beauty. Picture Book Art
Capturing moments in the life of a character, imagining and recreating their worlds – these are the things that inspire Maria to invent, dream up and draw her stories. Working on a book for Maria is a process that resembles to creating a painting. All elements have to work together. Words, images and rests, like in music and poetry, have to form a perfect rhythm as you turn the pages and discover the story. With her illustrations she is aiming at building a bridge between her vision and the heart of the reader, be it a child or an adult. Learn More
